About
The Emergency Medical Technology Program is designed to provide basic and advanced training for emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. Emergency Medical Technicians function as a part of a comprehensive Emergency Medical System response, under medical oversight. EMTs perform interventions with the basic equipment found on an ambulance.
The Emergency Medical Technology program will be divided into two courses, EMT and Advanced EMT. The Advanced EMT course is a new course based on the National EMS Standards adopted by the State of TN. The primary focus of the advanced course is to train the EMT in providing basic and limited advanced medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. The Advanced course adds to the knowledge learned in the EMT course and includes IV administration, and other advanced skills the EMT cannot perform.
